![]() The buttons are hidden under a flap of silk and the fabric is matched on the side it buttons to. It does up along the neckline to one side and buttons to close. SAINT LAURENT RUSSIAN COLLECTION 1976 FULLThe sleeves are full and voluminous above their ruffled cuffs. The shoulders are set into the bodice with gathers so that they slightly pouf above the shoulder line. The shoulder have light padding just at their outer edges to slightly extend them outward. The top is cut to skim over you and blouse over the waist. It is made entirely by hand and the silk is of the highest possible grade. The dress is amazing and a classic Yves Saint Laurent cut and silhouette. It really is a beautiful piece and owning a piece of his couture work is really one of the ultimate vintage acquisitions. The dress is gorgeous and in person the fabric seems to have an inner glow. I have included these reference photos for you hear so that you can share that bit of detective work with me. I also dived into my folio collection book and there were pieces in that collection that used this same fabric as evidenced by the swatch. When dating this great little Couture Yves Saint Laurent we noticed that the fabric is a variation of pieces for the Fall 1994 show and that also fits the style and feel of the dress. Thoroughly checked over before shipping, it will be ready to wear upon arrival. This garment has been professionally cleaned, pressed and is odor free. Photo credits: Yves Saint Laurent, YSL Runway, Vogue 1976, Guy Bourdin for Vogue 1976 Waist: 14" flat across from side seam to side seam, 19" at the bottom of the black velvet band which is 7" deep Tagged a vintage 44 but please check actual listed measurements below. It closes at the side with a painted metal zipper and large flat hook & eye at the waist. The main portion of the skirt is unlined and the velvet part lined in a black silky rayon. It still feels insanely fresh and modern with endless styling possibilities. The Russian collection is one that is constantly referenced and looked back upon as one of his greatest achievements and having a skirt like this in your collection will be a coup. These were worn with his signature voluminous tops and colors were mixed with riotous abandon. It falls in a long and lean column when still but there is a volume there that will show when you move or walk. The band around the hip that perfectly balances the volume of the lower skirt is done in a black velvet that acts as an anchor and gives the illusion of slimness and shape as it curves up to the waist. The red is a mix of wool with just a touch of angora that gives it a bit of a texture while still allowing the fabric to be light and fine. This is from the Rive Gauche line so would have been produced for the fall season just after the Couture show and it is glorious. This look was one of the cornerstones to the famous "Russian peasant" Haute Couture collections with its banded and fitted upper hip and flowing skirt. ![]()
